Cajun Chicken Pasta

Image
Welcome back to the Busy Student Kitchen Blog! This pasta dish is an absolute staple. It can be very simple to start off but it is such a buildable meal as the opportunities to add to it are endless.  This meal was one of the first I ever cooked after moving out, and 3 years later I still cook it on a regular basis.  You can add many things to this meal to change it up or bulk it out. I have made vegetable Cajun pasta, chorizo Cajun pasta, or even added in some bacon lardons to the chicken pasta. You could add all these extras in separately to create different meals or add it all into the one dish for a delicious array of flavours.    Utensils.  For this meal, you will need a pot, a frying pan, and a pasta drainer. It is also beneficaial to have some sort of spoon to mix you r meal.   Jumping into the recipe: Step 1:  Put your chicken into a pan on a medium heat and coat your chicken in Cajun spice, the more you add the spicier it will be, but Cajun is...

Burger and Sweet potato fries.

Image
Welcome back to the Busy Student Kitchen Blog! This meal is one of my all-time favourites. Sweet potato fries are healthy and so easy to make. You could always use normal potato’s instead if you’re not a fan of sweet potato, but I heavily recommend trying them as they are so tasty! For the burger you can use beef, chicken, or a veggie burger, whatever your preference is, or you can constantly switch it up! Eating healthy and nutritionally at university can easily be pushed to the side for convenient meals, however with this meal you get the best of both worlds.    Utensils.  To cook this meal, you will need a knife, chopping board and a tray for the oven. Remember to get creative and make use of what you have.  Your burger will usually have cooking instructions on the packet, so be sure to check the recommended cooking time and temperature on your packet. You can also fry burgers however, since our sweet potato fries will be going in the oven, it makes sense to have ...

Sausage Tomato Pasta

Image
Welcome back to the Busy Student Kitchen Blog! This recipe is one of my all-time favourites as it has such little ingredients involved, meaning less clean up! I love a pasta dish as, if I have any leftovers, I usually take them to university for lunch, saving me time the next day.  This recipe is very versatile as you can switch up the sausages for chicken, meatballs or even turn it into a vegetable-based meal. You can also add anything you want to it to give that extra flavour or bulk it out.    Utensils.  This recipe only requires a pot for the pasta, a pasta drainer, and a spoon for mixing the sauce. This is perfect if you don’t want to waste key studying time cleaning up lots of dishes. It is simple, easy and allows for minimal mess.    Okay, let’s start cooking. Step 1:  Put your sausages in the oven at 200 degrees for around 22 minutes or until golden brown. You should turn your sausages at least once to ensure that they are fully cooked. ...

The Fakeaway Chinese

Image
Welcome back to the Busy Student Kitchen Blog! Moving to University can mean missing out on those family Friday night takeaways. With the price of Uber Eats being unjustifiable as a regular payment for students, this recipe solves this issue and allows for a more nutritional substitute for a takeaway.  The Fakeaway Chinese is the perfect meal when you’re craving a takeaway, and it’s a lot healthier! This meal can also be adapted, as you can add in veggies or rice to bulk it out. However, just ‘as it is’ is the perfect dinner treat.  Utensils.  In this blog we understand the limited utensils and space that university students may have in their halls or flat. Luckily for you, this recipe only needs one pan and a sandwich bag (don’t worry, I’ll explain). It may also be of benefit to have a spatula and a spoon to mix the sauce but just use what you have on hand!   Jumping into the recipe: Step 1:  Pop your diced chicken into a sandwich bag and add in enough cornflou...

Chicken with Chilli Jam.

Image
Welcome to the Busy Student Kitchen Blog! This recipe is one of the simplest and quickest to make, allowing you to save time and energy on any heavy clean up, leaving more time to focus on your studying.  You also have the option to build this recipe if you want to add more flavour with the ‘chicken seasoning’ or if you are lacking on the veggies feel free to add in some peppers, onions, broccoli, or any vegetable you like. Once you get comfortable with the recipe you can really get creative and make it your own.  Utensils.  We all know University halls don’t give radical amounts of space for cooking utensils. Luckily this recipe only requires one pan. Other helpful tools include a spatula for cooking the chicken, and a spoon for mixing the chilli jam, this is recommended for an easier process but if you don’t have these tools feel free to just use a spoon for both – don’t be fooled when they tell you that you need fancy tools to make these recipes work.  Okay...
